Top qualities of a good Team Leader

 

  • Integrity – Leaders who possess integrity gain the trust of team members because he does what he says.
  • Friendly with Team members – An effective team leader is honest and open with his team members.
  • Treats team members the same way he/she wants to be treated – Instead of just treating others the way you would want to be treated, think about others the way you would want to be thought of. Feel about others the way you would want others to feel about you. Speak to others the way you would want to be spoken to or spoken of. Be away from “bossism”.
  • Influential – Instead of forcing, Influence team member for valuable changes.
  • Motivational – Inspire and motivate teamwork for achieving goals.
  • Listen to Team Members – Be open to new ideas coming from team members and establish an open discussion for decision-making.
  • Encourage – Encourage and support independent thinking.
  • Communication – Effective team leaders communicate clearly. Quality verbal and written communication skills allow leaders to present expectations to team members in a way team members can understand.
  • Consistent– No one wants to be in a team that they have to guess which mood the leader is in or what today is going to hold because of the inconsistencies of the team leader.
  • Calm/Stable – Rorke Denver talked recently about a Commander that gave their team one of the greatest leadership lessons ever while they were in the field. He simply said, “Calm is contagious.” So true. In India, M.S Dhoni is one of the best example of being calm and handling the worse situations.
  • Sharp perception:Do you know how people really perceive you? Effective leaders do. Are your co-workers and team members relaxed around you?
  • Last but not least. If MOST of your team members don’t like you, you certainly are not a good Team Leader.
